Borrowed Destiny is a contemporary fantasy filled with occult suspense and psychic mysteries. It channels the magical realism of New Orleans in a story about family secrets, ghosts of the past, and second chances.
Jeanie Maxwell is lonely and bored with her life and career. On a New Orleans business trip, she meets aging psychic, “Mama” Lucie Dulon, a woman who is grieving the recent loss of her twin sister. Lucie reads Jeanie’s palm, and tells Jeanie that she is sharing her body with another soul. Confused and certain this is nonsense. Jeanie ignores the psychic’s warnings. But over the next five days, Jeanie’s life disintegrates as the other soul takes control. Lucie senses Jeanie is in danger, but is dealing with plenty of problems of her own. Can she save Jeanie?

What Simon Didn't Say is a novel about Attorney Zoie Taylor, a single mom who gives up her lucrative position at a fast-paced New York law firm to move back to Washington, DC to work for a nonprofit foundation, a move that will allow her to spend more time with her young child and ailing grandmother. One day, in the middle of her commute to work, a homeless man named Simon saves her life. Simon, makes a strange proclamation about her life. She's shocked when it later comes true. As Zoie waits to see if Simon's other prophecies come true, her staid existence is turned upside down by a strange mystery, a charming new suitor, and challenges in her personal life. It's all tied to the local homeless shelter and Zoie is determined to find out exactly what is hiding there.

About the author
Joy is a Harlem, New York native and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Howard University. After a long career in Information Technology she is now focused on her writing. She is the author of three books, the biographies of Teamster labor leaders: John H. Cleveland, Daniel Tobin and Clara Day. Her horror and crime short stories appear in a number of anthologies. What Simon Didn't Say is Joy's first novel. Her second novel is expected in 2019. Currently, she resides with her husband in Northern Virginia.
